  • What is Presque

Presque is a soft bra-shaped device (Presque Bra) that you wear over your breast. It has an onboard reservoir which you fill with supplemental milk (your own pumped milk, a donor’s milk, or formulated). You connect it to the Presque’s patented supplement delivery ring (SANC for Simulated Areola Nipple Complex). The ring goes over your natural areola with your nipple extending through its central opening. You then put your baby to your breast as you normally would. The baby starts sucking at your breast and by doing so, also draws from the supplement. This way, if you think you don’t have enough milk, you can give your baby that extra milk without using a bottle: your baby gets what he needs and your body’s milk making machine gets the stimulation it needs to continue making milk. So, while there is a lot of innovation in the Presque, all you have to do is done in a few simple steps.

  • Is Presque bra a breast pump?

No. The Presque Smart Bra, is not a breast pump. It does not extract, by pumping or otherwise, milk from the breast. The baby does all of that as nature intended it to.

  • Is Presque a single product?

Presque is developing a series of need-specific products, each to address different needs of moms and babies.

  • Does the Presque bra massage the breast?

No. The one who is doing the “massaging” is the baby. Because the baby actually suckles at the mom’s nipple which extends out of the Presque simulated nipple, baby gets to do what babies do: suckle and stimulate the moms breast milk production.

  • How does Presque bra promote breast milk production?

Presque helps promote the natural breast milk production by allowing the baby to breastfeed as babies normally do. The bra itself does not interfere with the act of breastfeeding.

  • Can the baby still breastfeed from the mother while the Presque bra is worn?

Yes. The Presque bra is designed to allow the mothers natural nipple to extend out of it so the baby can still breastfeed. This, in fact, is a key feature of the Presque bra: not to interfere with natural breastfeeding.

  • Why do people supplement their baby?

In spite of the desire to avoid bottles, there are many reasons that breastfeeding may present a challenge and at times even make supplementation desirable. Initiating breastfeeding may be made challenging by delivery via C-section or perhaps arrival of mom’s milk may be delayed by illness or medication. A mom may have difficulty producing enough milk to satisfy her baby, or she may wish to return to breastfeeding after using a bottle. Additionally, one of the main reasons for early abandonment of breastfeeding is Perceived Insufficient Milk (PIM). Roughly 35% of all women who wean during the first few weeks post-partum, report PIM as the primary reason.

  • How does bottle feeding impact natural milk production?

If the baby is bottle fed, the mother is missing out on that stimulation that tells her body to produce more milk. This may result in her milk supply dropping, leading to more supplementation from the bottle and ultimately, in most cases, early weaning.

  • How does frequent breastfeeding help maintain/increase natural milk production?

The suckling motion of a hungry baby, whether breast milk is present or not, causes a hormonal reaction in the mother’s body which stimulates production of more milk.

  • Is Presque a replacement for bottles?

The short answer is yes. For moms who want to breastfeed, using the Presque bra, does not interrupt the natural milk making process. This is because, while the baby receives the supplement the mom believes her baby needs, she gets to continue with breastfeeding at the same time.

  • What is novel about the Presque design?

Designed with the moms’ and babies’ needs in mind, the Presque smart platform is easy-to-use, feminine, and dignified with no tubes or cords and fits under her clothing for use throughout the day, untethered.

  • Is the Presque bra only for biological moms?

The Presque platform of products can be used by biological and adoptive parents, and infants with special needs.

  • How closely will the Presque bra match my skin tone?

Our aim is to release the Presque bra in multiple skin tones, so it can be worn and used, as intended: like your second skin.

  • Does Presque smart bra collect data?

Presque smart system can collect data, and if the user chooses, such data may be anonymously aggregated to help research. For example, Presque smart system enables collection of objective data about perceived insufficient milk (PIM), currently only based on maternal perceptions.

  • How is the data useful on a larger scale?

The data the system collects, can recognize patterns and trends, and help identify issues across (sub-)populations. This in turn will be useful in large-scale newborn health initiatives to increase healthy breastfeeding behavior.

  • Does Presque bra use A.I.?

The data the system collects, can recognize patterns and trends. A.I. (artificial intelligence) will be useful in this analysis.
